The INN Between is the first hospice for the homeless in Utah and in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and comfortable place where Utah's homeless men and women can experience the end of life with dignity, receive professional hospice services, and be surrounded by compassionate people who care. We envision a community where no one dies alone and afraid on the streets, and we seek to end human suffering on the streets.
Since opening in August 2015, The INN Between has helped 19 people die with dignity by providing over 5,000 housing nights to those who have nowhere else to go in their greatest time of need.
Death with dignity is a basic human right. The homeless, by not having a fixed address, lack access to hospice care at the end of life. The INN Between bridges this critical gap. After all, homelessness is a circumstance, not a character trait, and is often brought on by advanced disease that leads to loss of employment, income and housing.
The INN Between offers the basic needs, such as meals, clothing, bedding, personal care items, and laundry, but our services go far beyond the basics to include social activities, emotional and spiritual support and other supportive services. Our volunteers offer salon services, music therapy, reiki, acupuncture, jewelry making, and many other activities and therapies that improve quality of life and relieve pain and anxiety associated with the end of life.
Family is important, and we strive to reconnect our clients with estranged family members before it's too late.
After a residents dies, we hold a community memorial service, write and post an obituary, and a place their name on a plaque in our Memorial Garden.
Many employers offer a matching gifts program. Speak with your HR department to see if your donation qualifies for a company match!
Thank you for your support! Together, we are creating a community where no one dies alone on the streets.
